-------- Simba's Return Created by Aztec Soldier Pros: The Lion King sported some of the most creative artwork styles back in the day, so it's really fun to see a stage converted to MUGEN. The Layout is pretty dynamic as well, and has a nice sense of balance. I'd also like to point out that for this stage, the music really adds to the experience and helps immerse you in the fight. Cons: There's not much going on in the background, although that's understandable considering that the original stage was static in the first place. Bugs: N/A Scoring: Programming: 3 Looks: 4 Total Score: 7 --------- Ice Temple of Quinnsveth Created by Moldredd Pros: The fog effects are really beautiful, as is the fog coming out of the skull's eyes. I'd also like to say that the skull is also really well designed. These were really easy on the eyes Cons: I really dislike the color clashing, especially with the dark blue in the background and the light colors in front. The deltas for the stuff in the foreground also seemed too fast for my tastes. Scoring: Programming: 2 Looks - 3 Total Score: 5 ---------- Balcony Created by Hoshi Pros: The elements that were used in this stage were quite good, and add to an oldschool atmosphere. The coulds in the background also seem to move at a very good pace. The music also really adds to the experience, and gives it a strange sort of tranquility which is really unique to the fighting game experience. Cons: This stage just feels too big. There were a lot of patches that you could've gotten rid of, as they were mainly just looping ground patterns, and the effect would've still been the same. Bugs: None Scoring: Programming: 3 Looks: 4 Final Score: 7 --------- Another World Created by Caddie Pros: You really outdid yourself in the background elements. The screenshots taken earlier really didn't do it justice, as the whole scene feels alive and gives off a really eerie vibe. And I have to give you mad props for the special touch you added for Super-jump. It's a bit disorienting the first time, but it's definitely a great touch in the long run. The music also gives off a nice vibe, especially with the wind effects. Cons: I can't really think of anything at all. Bugs: None Scoring: Programming: 4 Looks: 5 Final Score: 9 ----------- Butter Building Created by GaryCXJk Pros: The effect with the tower is very rarely seen, much less executed properly, but I believe you've really got it down. I also like what you did with the Shotzo, making them turn with the building. The look and feel of the building is really reminicent of something that you'd see in Super Smash Bros. Cons: The NES sprites flying around really kill the experience. Now granted Kracko in the background was actually pretty cool, but Dedede and Bronto Burt really pushed it. For your next update, I recommend removing everything except for Kracko. Bugs: None Scoring: Programing: 4 Looks: 3 Final Score: 7 ------------ Welcome to Monkey World! Created by Mature4Evr Pros: I know we said at the beginning that adding sprites might cause problems, but in this case, the monkeys really make you feel like you're in Super Mario World 2. I also have to commend you for the excellent work on the layering, which also feels close to the game. Cons: The water. You might want to edit the water so that the color is more closer to the original game, but aside from that, fighting in it just doesn't do it justice to the original. Even though it's impossible in MUGEN (except for full games and the like), you'd expect to be affected by water physics or see water effects but that's not the case here, and as a result the stage just feels awkward during the fight. If another MUGEN engine gets finished that supports char/background interaction, then you should definitely investigate it for this stage. Bugs: None Scoring: Programming: 4 Looks: 3 Final Score: 7 ---------- Blue Lake Created by Eep386 Pros: The general feel does look nice, and the water effects are well done in general. The bridge, well, and hut all add to the experience of the stage. Cons: Too man P blocks, and I felt that this could've been shortened. Not all the trees were necessary, and the stage just felt overwhelming. Bugs: N/A Scoring: Programming: 3 Looks: 4 Final Score: 7 ---------- Cave of Spirits Created by megaman_zer0 Pros: I'm impressed that you were able to rip from an RPG with such a small amount of visible background. I'm also quite pleased at the edits for this stage, as well as the good use of deltas Cons: The big blockiness really detracted from the stage, and is much more apparent when you jump (my lifebars covered up most of the blockiness). This is one case in which a stage is better without vertical scroll Bugs: N/A Scoring: Programming: 3 Looks: 2 Final Score: 5 --------- Crystal Labyrinth Created by felineki Pros: Wow. This stage just totally kicked my ass. The complexity of all the animations are really incredible, as is everything else featured in this stage. I was a little nervous when I heard you were doing something from a shooter, but the end result is just amazing. My hat's off to you felineki. I hope to see more of your works in the future. Cons: The ground looks a little weird but that's about it. Scoring: Programming: 5 Looks: 5 Final Score - 10 ---------- Metro City Created by aokmaniac13 Pros: I really like what you did with the cars on fire, as well as the incorporation of the beast running around in the background. I can see a lot of work went into making the movements look smooth and perfectly timed. Cons: Although the sprites are cool, the ones on ground level make things look weird, and throw off the depth of the scene. The same goes with the monster, as it looks like he's running on the same ground you are (although he isn't). It might've been good to fade him out a bit. Bugs: N/A Scoring: Programming: 4 Looks: 4 Final Score - 8 ---------- Brinstar Created by Neo-Kamek Pros: Yay Metroid. Also that you were able to give off the illusion that we're far away from whatever's going on in the background. The animated bugs and the "confetti" also works really well in this stage. Cons: That platform with the in the middle stands out too much. I'd probably raise it a little more. Also the walls make the stage feel closed in. Bugs: N/A Scoring: Programming: 4 Looks: 4 Final Score: 8 --------- Fatal Judgement Created by Kung Fu Man Pros: If what I read is correct, ripping sprites from a PSP involves a bunch of warranty voiding procedures, so for that you deserve credit. As for the rest of the stage, you did a very good job of ripping the static elements and tiling them to maintain as many colors as possible. Cons: I can see visible horizontal lines on the scrolling clouds, which could probably be fixed by editing. Also, the mp3 cuts off rather abruptly. A fade-out might work better here. Scoring: Programming: 3 Looks: 4 Final Score: 7 --------- Comix Zone Created by PotS Pros: I'm really amazed out how this turned out. Each section of the stage is well animated, giving their own ideas and conveying the best elements of this game. Well done! Cons: The jumping mechanism feels a bit wonky, and the panels block some lifebars (tested on Default bars) Programming: 4 Graphics: 4 Final Score: 8
